Crafted In lacquered wood, surface hand decorate in GOLD LEAF with contrast depicting “the battle of San Romano”. Legs and spears in lacquered metal. A mirrored surface internally adorns the bottom opening. The four legs on which it rests are slightly angled and two of them continue upwards on the top of the piece adding a unique element to the shape.

Mimmo Paladino

Mimmo Paladino was born in Paduli, near Benevento in southern Italy in 1948. He studied at the Liceo Artistico in Benevento between 1964 and 1968. He currently lives and works in Italy where he has studios all over the country including in Rome, Paduli and Puglia. Paladino's first solo exhibition was held at the Studio Oggetto, Caserta in 1969. In 1980, at the invitation of Achille Bonito Oliva, he participated in the Aperto '80 at the Venice Biennial along with Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Enzo Cucchi and Nicola De Maria. A major retrospective of his work was held in Munich at the Stadtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus in 1985. Other major solo exhibitions include Galleria Civica d'Arte Contemporanea in Trento in1992, Forte Belvedere, Florence in1993, Scuderie di Palazzo Reale, Piazza del Plebiscito and Villa Pignatelli, Naples 1995-6, South London Gallery 1999 and Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Prato, Italy 2002-03. Paladino's work is held in major public collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Tate Gallery in London.
